SHAUN GRANT ACTING REEL: 2.0

10 Ways To Play And Win Big In Acting.
The most interesting thing about being an actor and finding success as an actor is that it all comes down to the type of relationship you develop with the craft.
When I first began acting twelve years ago, all I could think about was success. Not only that, I could have cared less about anyone else succeeding because my focus was completely on myself.
Fast forward to today, acting has become a completely intuitive experience. Everything functions off insight for me and I care about the success and fulfillment of every actor and actress on the planet. The only way that was possible for me was when I realized concept number one:
1. There’s More Than Enough Success To Go Around For 100 Lifetimes.
Let’s think about this for a moment. You came to this Earth, developed an intensely strong desire for the craft of acting, and began to move on that desire. What’s the only thing that could stop you from realizing your dreams? Nothing in actuality can hinder you.
There’s nothing of greater truth than what I’m about to reveal to you. The only way you don’t succeed as an actor or actress is:
A) Impatience
B) You’re doing it for the wrong reasons. (fame and fortune as opposed to love)
C) You believe that not everyone can succeed.
If you’re free of these three, it’s only a matter of time before you reach a point of succeeding.
2. Believe In Yourself And Your Acting , Even If The Whole World Is Against You.
Although this can be a place that potentially makes you think about quitting, it’s your faith and belief in yourself and your acting that rises you above any adversity. The thing to know about adversity is that it’s always a springboard to greater heights.
You just have to embrace it, but more importantly, embrace yourself and your acting at all costs.
3. All Casting Directors Really Want You To Win.
As an actor or actress, your ability to be great makes it easier on everyone, especially for the person you’re auditioning for. Somewhere along the line, it became US vs. Them. It’s ludicrous!
Casting Directors can be some of your biggest fans if you do your job and you do your job well. All the motivation lies in knowing: Casting Directors are rooting for you!
4. Be The Ultimate Professional.
Professionalism has an infinite reach in any area of life. But, as an actor or actress professionalism can be the difference between being hired or not, being kept or being fired, being remembered or forgotten.
Here’s another significant truth I’d like to share with you when it comes to winning in the game of acting:
Everyone has talent! The days of just being talented to book a role are over and behind us. What matters is not just talent, but the type of person you are, your level of respect for others and how well you work with others.
Instead of just bringing talent to the table, bring everything that is exceptional about you as an actor and a person.
5. Follow The Joy, Not What You Think You Should Do.
I’m reminded of the time I got offered to play “The Unlucky Bastard” in the Staright Outta Compton film. I thought about it, then realized what the role consisted of, and then I turned it down.
Was it hard to watch the film gain critical acclaim and popularity? Absolutely not!
The reason I had no regrets is because as a performer, I always follow the joy. I never follow the fame or fortune. When you follow anything but your joy, you set yourself up to be disappointed down the road. It’s not worth it.
I recall Denzel Washington in an interview, discussing how in 1986 how he turned down a film that could have paid him more than any job he had ever had as an actor. “The Nigga They Couldn’t Kill, is what I’ll call it,” Denel mentioned.
Everything about this film went against who he was as a person. He turned it down as well as the $600,000 paycheck. Only six months later, he received a film he could get excited about as well as pay him more. But this would not have happened if he didn’t follow his joy.
6. Never Deal With Negativity, Ever!
Simply put, negativity is a cancer that knocks down everyone in it’s path. Don’t allow yourself to be a victim, it’s never worth it. Negativity is blinded to all of the positive uplifting things that are present in your acting career right now.
There are a lot of things to be tolerant of, but negativity isn’t one of them. Root it up and let it go.
7. Patience And Timing Is Everything As An Actor.
When Jason Bateman won an award for his performance in Netflix’s Ozark, he made the most memorable speech ever for any actor or actress pursuing an acting career.
I’ll never forget the sincerity behind his words:
“You know, you guys out there watching this…You’re only just one break away from being where I am. That’s all, one break. So be patient, continue to follow your dreams, you’ll get there.”
When it comes to this industry, once again, treat everyone with kindness and respect, because it’s only a matter of time before their, or your number is up next.
8. Be Obsessively Clear On What You Desire.
When you clear out everything that could potentially hold you back and you put yourself in a position to be free of self imposed obstacles, then you can get very clear on what you desire to see in your acting career.
An amazing way to do this is to set a goal in the present tense written down, and then write ten characteristics about the goal.
“When there are no self imposed obstacles, setting a clear goal is the greatest step for any actor or actress.”
All this does is place your focus on the task at hand and allows you to see what steps need to be taken once the goal is set.
9. See Everything As A Win….Everything!
Perspective is everything. There’s not much to it other than seeing every situation or circumstance as a win.
When everything is seen as a win, you begin to win in everything. When you know that you are winning at everything, it sends your confidence through the roof.
If your confidence is high, you will eventually book more roles.
10. Always Evaluate Yourself As An Actor or Actress.
This could be the most important aspect of this list, and the reason being is, we have to be ready to change things if they’re not working. Sometimes comfort moves us into doing the same things but expecting a different result.
This gets us nowhere. As an actor, every six months we should evaluate things such as our passion, technique, creativity, inspiration and lastly, results.
If acting is not giving you what you want or expect, evaluate yourself and what you’re doing, and without question, you will discover what adjustments need to be made.
The most important aspect of playing and winning big in acting is just to take your career one step at a time.
Have a present awareness to always know that you only have to be your best in the present moment in order to win every moment.
Cheers,

The Audition Chronicles- Say No To Guilt
Guilt is one of the main reasons actors and actresses get pushed from success. It limits their ability to move forward by keeping them stuck.
SHAUN GRANT ACTING- HIGHER VIBRATIONAL HOLLYWOOD
As an actor, it's important to completely clear all blockages, most importantly, the ones we can't see consciously.
"YOU'RE NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO BE AS AN ACTOR, SO WHAT DO YOU DO?"
We've all been there at one point or another. We look up and realize that we're not exactly where we think we should be at the moment. The key word is "THINK." I know what it feels like to put so much energy into something and not receive anything in return, or to sit and wonder what went wrong. You may have heard the story before from me, but in 2009 I booked one job: A video with Ne-Yo for Disney's The Frog and the Princess. I spent more money on classes, headshots, breakdowns and workshops that year, and I just couldn't believe that nothing was coming of it. Then a glaring realization struck me like a bolt of lightning. Before I get into that, I want to explain something to you.
There is a universal law called, THE LAW OF GESTATION. In as many words, this law states that every thought, word or action is a seed. At the right time, (divine time) this seed will sprout into a harvest. The truth is, we're completely unaware of when this harvest will sprout. BUT! IT WILL SPROUT! YOU JUST HAVE TO TRUST AND HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF, AND ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE. Getting back to that lightning bolt of realization, at the end of that year I realized that everything takes time to grow, especially when it's of great magnitude. So I needed to be patient with myself and the corresponding circumstances. It was at that point that I got excited because I knew that all of the classes, all of the auditions, all of the marketing, all of the workshops and courses was energy that was getting ready to transform into the success and fulfillment that I was seeking. Once again, I just had to be patient.
Fast forward to 2010, three feature films, a stunt gig and three commercials later, I realized that all of the work in 2009 wasn't wasted. IT WAS TRANSFORMED!! You may be waking up day after day, wondering why you're going to this audition or why you're taking this meeting. Some of you may have been at this for five or ten years with nothing really to show for it. But don't get discouraged, because your harvest time is coming. Your success is awaiting the right time to sprout up in your life and it won't be a millisecond late. Take a moment right now to think about all that you've done. NOW GET HAPPY! GET EXCITED! You are priming yourself for some serious fulfillment in the entertainment industry. The sooner you experience joy about where you are in your acting career, the greater you'll start to feel about what's inevitably possible for you.
I leave you with one of the greatest quotes I've ever come across from Keanu Reeves' character, Neo, in the Matrix. "NOTHING EVER REALLY DIES, IT'S ONLY TRANSFORMED." This lets us know the most important thing for any of us embarking upon this acting journey, ALL OF OUR THOUGHTS, WORDS AND ACTIONS ARE LEADING US TO A PLACE WHERE WE CAN FEEL HAPPY, FULFILLED AND ACCOMPLISHED AS ACTORS. With that being said, every step you take, every move you make is leading you to somewhere you can be proud of right now!
Cheers,
Shaun Grant

Hi Shaun. Your thoughts on not giving up as an actor tell me not to ever give up and push forward despite any failures or doing small projects, which can actually help actors, creative artists.
I believe there was a similar event with Zachary Quinto for the role of Sylar
